A short drive outside Wangaratta will get you to the Warby-Ovens National Park, a beautiful conservation area with a classic Australian outback landscape. This park is an Indigenous cultural landscape in the traditional Country of the Yorta Yorta Peoples. Come to this national park to camp in the bush and spend time in nature. There is plenty to do, including walking and exploring the gorgeous landscapes by wandering down the many tracks, canoeing or kayaking through the waters, cooling off with a dip in Ovens River, and boating and fishing in certain areas, too. The Wangaratta Art Gallery is located within the creative arts precinct inside a stunning heritage-listed building. The gallery is a must-visit for any art enthusiasts coming to the area. Cycle Wangaratta

Wangaratta is a treasure trove of cycling tracks and trails for visitors and locals to pick from. There is a wide range of tracks, including shared paths, road rides, gravel, and mountain trails. Here are a few examples of tracks to consider. The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail extends over 100 km through beautiful country towns, including Wangaratta, Beechworth and Bright. Walk the Wangaratta Heritage Trail

One fantastic way to get to know a new location is to learn about its history. Lucky for you, Wangaratta has made this easy with the Wangaratta Heritage Trail, a mapped-out track you can follow, guiding you through to the area's landmarks and historic buildings. Some of the highlights of this trail include W H Edwards Museum. Located in the heart of the town, this museum is a great starting point to pop into and learn the history, see memorabilia, artefacts and more. The Holy Trinity Cathedral is a beautiful church that is well worth a visit. King George V Gardens is a charming park in the town centre, and lastly, the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre which is based inside a gorgeous building. Picnic in the Park

Wangaratta is home to multiple beautiful parks that are perfect to come to for a picnic in the park. Starting with King George V Gardens, a lovely park located in the centre of town with magnificent leafy trees and beautiful stretches of lawn that are ideal for picnicking. This is a terrific family-friendly park fully equipped with toilets and, of course, a playground. Next is Merriwa Park, a charming park with tall redgums and sweeping lawns. This park is well-shaded thanks to the large trees and has plenty of space for visitors to spread out. There are barbecues on site to step up your picnic experience. Merriwa Park is also family friendly, with a playground, toilets and a small stone bridge. Not to mention, during the school holidays, Rainbow Trout are supplied into the pond for fun family fishing.
