The cold winter days are finally gone; spring is here at last, and nothing says spring more than longer days, warmer weather, and gorgeous flowers. If you're itching to get away, here are some of our top locations that you can escape to this spring.
Kangaroo Island, South Australia
This is a fantastic destination to visit during spring, particularly if you're a nature lover. There is a diverse range of flora and fauna to spot, including many kangaroos, seals lounging in the sun and even dolphins. The gentle spring climate makes this a lush destination to explore during the warmer months. Some top locations to see are Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, Emu Bay Lavender Farm and Flinders Chase National Park.
Alice Springs, Northern Territory
If you're looking for a hot start to spring, then Alice Springs might be the destination for you. See the desert come alive at the Alice Springs Desert Park, where you can roam the desert landscapes, learn about the Indigenous culture and see the thriving plant life. Keep an eye out for beautiful desert wildflowers that bloom during the warmer months and offer stunning pops of colour against the iconic red dirt. Be sure to also see the West MacDonnell Ranges for picturesque scenery, swimming holes and fantastic hikes.
Port Douglas, Queensland
There's something about Port Douglas that makes you feel like you're on holiday as soon as you arrive. It could be the palm trees or the golden sandy beaches, making it a perfect getaway location after the cold months. Some of the highlights to see and do while here are Four Mile Beach, Hartley's Crocodile Adventures, A cruise along the gorgeous blue waters, Trinity Bay Lookout and if you're up for a drive, Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation are destinations you won't want to miss.
An hour and a half north of Melbourne CBD is the charming town of Healesville. This enchanting small town is a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle and unwind in a location with a slower pace. Browse the boutique shops on the main street, visit the Healesville Sanctuary and stop by one of the few distilleries in town for a drink. Or, if you're looking for a scenic drive, Healesville is the start of the picturesque Black Spur Drive through the mountains.
Mudgee is well known as a food and wine destination. This fantastic travel destination is a foodie's dream, with many quality restaurants to choose from. In addition, there are a variety of picturesque wineries where you can sip vino while overlooking the vineyards and rolling hills of the countryside. On the days you aren't indulging yourself, get out in nature and visit Ganguddy-Dunns Swamp on the Cudgegong River, a popular camping ground and the perfect spot to kayak along the tranquil waters.
Maria Island, Tasmania
Immerse yourself fully in nature this spring on Maria Island, a camper's oasis. On the island is the Maria Island National Park, a haven for nature lovers full of cute wombats, wallabies, Tasmanian Devils and other animals, beautiful wildflowers blooming, stretches of golden sands, and lush plant life. A few highlights to visit are Bishop and Clerk, the Painted Cliffs and Darlington Probation Centre.
Avon Valley, WA
The Avon Valley region is beautiful to visit during the spring months. The countryside is loaded with rolling hills, streams and, of course, wildflower trails. Most notably, inside the Avon Valley National Park are a range of wildflower trails that visitors can follow. Spend time following trails and snapping pictures. Be sure to pack a picnic lunch for a picturesque afternoon lying in fields of flowers.
