At KINTO, our partnership with Gather My Crew gives us insight into what help and care really look like in everyday life, and how often transport is the critical piece that makes everything else possible.

This is Faye’s story, and it shows how overwhelming treatment schedules can be and how important it is to have reliable transport to get there.

My name is Faye, and in December 2022, after many tests and scans, I heard the words nobody ever wants to hear: “You have cancer.”

From that moment, my world fell apart. At the same time, my beautiful family and friends surrounded me with love, and a genuine desire to help in any way they could.

My treatment plan was intense. Surgery, followed by 35 daily radiation treatments, and three double chemotherapy treatments. That meant getting to hospital day after day, week after week. Transport wasn’t optional. It was essential.

My sister Sheree, who was incredible throughout it all, asked if she could set up Gather My Crew. Friends and family had already been reaching out to her, asking how they could help.

Once I had all my treatment dates, Sheree added them to the app and listed the days I would need help with transport.

Without having to ask anyone individually, or coordinate anything herself, every single date was filled within 24 hours.

Knowing that someone would be there to pick me up each day was an enormous relief. I didn’t have to worry about how I’d get to treatment, or whether I was asking too much. I could simply focus on getting better, and allow myself to accept the help that was being offered.

That daily certainty mattered more than I can put into words. During a time when so much felt uncertain, transport to lifesaving treatment became one thing I didn’t have to think about.

The app was wonderful, and I’ve since recommended it to friends supporting loved ones through cancer treatment or anyone who needs practical help. Knowing there would be somebody there each day to get me where I needed to go lifted a huge burden.

Thank you for creating something that makes such a difference. I have no doubt it has helped many people like me.
