In this complete guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about hiring a ute in Australia, from costs and licence requirements to where you can pick one up and what to expect. Whether it’s your first time or you're a regular ute renter, this article will help you feel confident and prepared before you hit the road.
How much does it cost to hire a ute in Australia?
The cost of ute hire in Australia depends on the model, duration of hire, location, and provider.
Bookings usually include essentials like car insurance, roadside assistance, and in some cases fuel. Costs can also vary for one-way hires, weekend rates, or ute rentals with extra features like cages or tow bars.
Newer models or automatic transmissions often come at a slightly higher price. While hourly car hire is ideal for quick jobs, daily and weekly bookings tend to offer better value, especially when hiring a high-spec model or travelling longer distances. Always check what's included in the price, such as fuel policy, insurance excess, and included kilometres, to avoid unexpected costs and choose the right ute for your job.
KINTO offers the Toyota HiLux Double Cab 4×4 from $18.20 per hour or $126 for 1 day, plus a per-kilometre rate that drops the longer you hire. KINTO does not change prices based on weekends or rush hours. ( Please note, these rates are accurate as of November 2025, at the time of writing this guide .)

What’s included in the ute hire cost?
With KINTO, your ute rental includes essentials like fuel, insurance, maintenance, and 24/7 roadside assistance. You only pay for the time and distance you use, with clear per kilometre rates displayed up front, no hidden fees or surprises. Tolls and any optional extras (like excess reduction) are charged separately, but everything is transparently shown in the app before you book.

Real ways a HiLux Double-cab Ute rental can make life easier
Hiring a HiLux Double-cab Ute isn’t just about getting from A to B; it’s about having the right vehicle to get the job done. Here are a few ways a ute hire can come in handy in your day-to-day life.
Tradie on the go
Mark is a self-employed carpenter who travels between job sites throughout the week. Recently, his work vehicle needed urgent repairs. Mark booked a HiLux Ute through KINTO for a fortnight to keep his business moving. The 4x4 capability meant he could access all his job sites without issue, and the strong payload allowed him to load all his timber, power tools, and other equipment without stress. Plus, the dual-cab meant he could transport his apprentice and gear all together. Mark was able to continue his jobs undisturbed with a reliable, modern vehicle that was ready when he needed it.
Weekend garden project
Jordan and her partner decided to tackle a mini backyard reno project while the sun was out. Instead of paying hefty delivery fees, they hired a KINTO HiLux ute for the weekend. In one trip, they were able to pack in a couple of large plants, soil, mulch, and a few other extras into the durable back tray. The ute had no trouble handling the supplies, making their project that much easier. Come Monday, they returned the ute, and their garden has the perfect touch of greenery in time for their family dinner party next week.
Picking up large items for an event
Sofia needed to pick up some tables, a marquee, and eskies for her sports club’s fundraiser. She chose to hire a HiLux Ute as the open tray allowed bulky items that wouldn’t fit in her car to be transported to the local clubhouse for the fundraising event. She could also bring along a few friends comfortably in the car to help her unload and set up the marquee for the day. It was a cost-effective solution, easy to drive, and transported all the items they needed to make the day a success.
When a cargo van is too much
Oliver just moved into a rental with his mates. He found someone on Marketplace selling a fridge that was too bulky to fit in his car. He was able to rent a KINTO HiLux Ute on short notice for a couple of hours to pick up the fridge and transport it. The ute’s open tray meant there were no height clearance worries, and the whole process was hassle-free. Now Oliver and his housemates have a fridge in time for their housewarming.
If you need a vehicle that can keep up with all your plans and the unexpected, the Toyota HiLux Double Cab 4×4 is built to deliver. Whether you’re moving furniture, managing your business, or tackling a weekend project, the HiLux Ute gives you the power and means to get the job done.
With KINTO, hiring a reliable vehicle is simple and hassle-free. Enjoy flexible booking options, transparent pricing, and modern vehicles accessible all through your smartphone.
