Great Barrier Reef

If there's one must for your bucket list, it has to be a visit to the Great Barrier Reef. Skyrail and Kuranda Scenic Railway

Reach new heights with the Skyrail to Kuranda. Float metres above the rainforest canopy and revel in the breathtaking 360° views of Barron Gorge and Australia's Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Hop off the Skyrail at selected points along the way to explore the rainforest and Falls up close, join a complimentary ranger-guided tour, and visit The Edge Lookout, the Rainforest Interpretation Centre and the Historical Precinct. Once off the Skyrail, explore the village of Kuranda. There is plenty to do here, including the Kuranda Original markets, full of delicious food and crafts. When you're done exploring the rainforest village, it's time to journey back via the Kuranda Scenic Railway, where you'll experience stunning up-close rainforest views and beautiful panoramic scenery.

Hartley's Lagoon is home to many crocodiles you can watch from a distance or on a lake cruise with a guide. Watch the crocodiles leap from the water and learn about these scaly reptiles. Once you've experienced the crocs, wander around the park and see the other animals, pat kangaroos and wallabies, take the cassowary walk or the wildlife discovery trail, or visit the tropical walkthrough aviary and see the many different birds. There are many talks to listen to, a living gallery and multiple feeding arenas filled with crocs as you walk through the park.

Discover Atherton Tablelands

Spend the day exploring Atherton Tablelands, and see the abundance of waterfalls and beautiful landscapes, including Millaa Millaa Waterfalls. Swim in the natural pools, visit the Historic Village Herberton- a historical museum, see the Mount Hypipamee Crater and the Cathedral Fig Tree or stop by one of the coffee or tea plantations in the area.

Cairns Esplanade

The Cairns Esplanade is an excellent place for a waterfront stroll. The full Esplanade spans 2.5km or 5km return and is wheelchair accessible. One of the main attractions of the Esplanade is the Cairns Lagoon, a large safe, saltwater swimming lagoon free of stingers and crocodiles for all to enjoy. While you're there, enjoy a picnic or barbecue with the onsite facilities.  

Fitzroy Island

A 45-minute ferry from Cairns will get you to Fitzroy Island. This beautiful island is a diverse landscape of woodlands, granite outcrops, rainforests, mangroves and coral beaches. Snorkel through the clear waters, swim or kayak. Hike through the rainforest on one of the walking tracks, or take your time and relax on the clean, preserved beaches.
