Congratulations! You’ve signed up for KINTO car rental, had your account approved and ready to make your first booking. But now what?

It can be a little daunting trialling a new technology, especially if you are used to the old method of car renting. Without a rental desk, keys or paperwork to sign, it can feel like something is missing, even if KINTO does remove the headaches of traditional car rental.

So in this guide we’ll give you the step by step guide to picking up your KINTO through our car rental app with ease.

Confirming your KINTO booking

KINTO car rentals can be booked with as little as 5 minutes notice with an approved KINTO account, giving you flexible and easy car rental whenever you need. You can also book up to  a year in advance, making it easy to plan for that upcoming trip or time away.

You’ve found a car that suits your rental needs, dates and time, and have just clicked book on the KINTO car rental app. Now the countdown to your booking begins! You’ll receive a booking confirmation email upon making the booking, but don’t worry there’s nothing to pay until 2 hours before your booking start time.

View your upcoming booking anytime in the “My Bookings” section of your KINTO app. You can adjust your booking times right up until you start your journey.

Two hours before your booking start time, you’ll receive a reminder notification in the KINTO app and your payment card will be charged the Duration Fee (or the first 30 days Duration Fee for bookings longer than 30 days).

Getting to your KINTO car

When you book a KINTO, you will choose a location that’s either housed at;

  • A Toyota Dealership
  • In a commercial or shopping centre car park
  • Or at an on-street parking location.

* Please make sure you’ve noted opening hours if you have booked a KINTO at a Toyota Dealership.

  1. Open your booking in the KINTO app and press the “Tap to Start Journey” button (this will appear within 5 mins of your booking start time).
  2. On the Connect to Vehicle screen, click “View vehicle location on map”
  3. The location of the vehicle will be displayed. You can press “Get Directions” to open your maps for specific directions to the vehicle.

Toyota Dealerships:

Head to the designated Toyota Dealership and look for the KINTO signage in the dealership carpark. If you cannot find your vehicle, you can ask the dealership employees for assistance.

Secure Car Park:

Once you’ve located the car park, your booking screen will have information about which carpark level and which set of bays your car is at. If there are multiple KINTOs in the one location, there may be a series of bays, and your car will be in one of them. You will see KINTO signage above these vehicles.

KINTO On Street:

You will see the exact address the car is parked on your booking screen. Some of our on-street locations will have a KINTO branded signage on the location. If you still cannot locate the vehicle, please give our team a call at 1300 4KINTO.

Accessing your KINTO car

Once you have located your vehicle, and are within a 5 metre radius, you will see a button on your booking screen giving you the option to connect your phone to the car and start your journey. This screen will become available 5 minutes before your booking time begins. Once connected, you will see the lock and unlock screen appear enabling you to access the vehicle.

Your phone will act as your car key to the vehicle via bluetooth technology. This signal is unique to your phone and won’t be able to be accessed by other KINTO users. However, when you leave the 5 metre working radius of the vehicle during your booking, you will need to reconnect your phone to the car via the button on the booking screen to access the unlock screen again.

Most of our KINTO fleet have push to start ignitions, so you won’t need to worry about carrying around car keys. The boot and fuel doors can be unlocked via the buttons inside the car.

Please note, if you are picking up a ute or van hire with KINTO, you will be able to unlock the van with the KINTO app, but the key to the ignition will be hanging from a cable attached to the steering column.

Your car should have at least ¼ a tank of fuel ready for your journey, however if this is not the case, please report this in the app or call us on 1300 4KINTO.

Checking your KINTO car

Before you begin driving your KINTO, please inspect the car for any damage. Report any damage by clicking on Report Damage in the Current Journey screen of the KINTO app. Any existing damages will already be recorded on this screen. If your car is dirty, smells bad or has low fuel, please report it in the app or call 1300 4KINTO.

Once satisfied, you’re free to begin your journey!

Beginning your journey with KINTO

To start the KINTO car, you will need to place your foot on the brake pedal and press the ignition button. Please familiarise yourself with the car’s size, adjust the seating position to suit your needs and test the pedals and brake.

Once the car is running, you will be able to connect your phone to CarPlay or Android Auto if you wish (your own cable may be required). From there you can access, navigation, music and hands free.

Ensure that you follow all road rules, and ensure that you charge your mobile phone during your journey. Some of our cars have a KINTO branded charging cable in the glove box, however we cannot guarantee this and recommend having backup charging. Otherwise you may not be able to unlock, lock or start the car.

If your phone does run out of charge, please find a way to contact our help line at 1300 4KINTO.

Exiting Secure Car Parks

For vehicles located in secure car parking, you may see a car park exit code on your booking screen. This will enable you to exit the carpark without any extra charge. Please don’t try to use the fuel card to exit or pay via a credit or debit card. In some cases, there may be a separate till for hire/share cars at the exit.

When returning the KINTO at the end of your booking, you will reuse the same code for car park re-entry.

And with that, you have successfully picked up your KINTO car!

Please ensure you lock the vehicle when it is not in use as per the membership agreement. For any other issues, you can try our troubleshooting tips in our FAQs, call us on 1300 4KINTO or email info@kinto.com.au. For urgent issues, you can also contact roadside assistance at 1300 832 772.
