Through our partnership with Gather My Crew, we see how everyday support, like transport, can shape the experience of care in unexpected ways.
Marcus’ story shows how shared lifts didn’t just get him to treatment, but created moments of connection that mattered deeply to everyone involved.

When Marcus was diagnosed with brain cancer, one of the immediate changes was that he had to stop driving.
Life at home was already stretched. His wife was managing the household, studying, and caring for their kids, while Marcus still needed to get to weekly radiation appointments. Getting there wasn’t optional but how it would happen was suddenly uncertain.
As soon as his mates heard the news, offers of help came flooding in. Everyone wanted to do something, but the volume of goodwill quickly became hard to manage. Who was driving when? Who was available which week? How could they make it fair and sustainable without adding pressure to Marcus or his family?
That’s when a friend suggested using Gather My Crew to organise the lifts.
Once the transport tasks were set up, each mate simply chose a trip that worked for them. The roster filled instantly. The logistics were handled. The pressure eased.
What happened next was something none of them expected.
Each drive to hospital became a pocket of one-on-one time, uninterrupted, unhurried, and unexpectedly joyful. Carpool karaoke quickly became tradition, with each mate picking a song for their ride. Music was played loudly, old favourites resurfaced, and “remember when” stories flowed. Conversations went deeper than they ever could have in a group catch-up.
What started as a practical lift to treatment became something special between Marcus and his friends.
Those trips did more than move Marcus from A to B. They gave his wife breathing room at home. They spread responsibility across a wider circle. And they created space for connection, the kind that only happens when two people are sitting side by side, with time to talk and nowhere else to be.
In the middle of something extremely difficult, Marcus and his mates transformed a necessary task into something meaningful. They were reminded that support isn’t only about practicality. It’s also about presence, love, and the connections we deepen along the way.
